Will spreading vinegar on a black marble wall prevent dogs from ****** on the wall?

My neighbor believes that spreading vinegar on the wall of the building will repel dogs. I have heard other attributes to vinegar but not this. There may be a chance the vinegar will destroy the shine of the marble.
